I don't have any other Anti Virus installed other than whatever comes with Windows Sometimes the problem is resolved after a reboot but not always and this isn't a satisfactory resolution!
Not sure if this is connected but since the upgrade I often notice that the PC won't closedown due to "Privacy Filter App preventing shutdown" message. Any resolutions gratefully received before I uninstall and go back to the basic free package - thanks.

You can't boot at all using any of the safe mode options, forcing a Windows re-install. This is a very important issue for an anti-virus program - If something gets onto your system somehow and just renames avgsrdisk. The only way round this without a complete Windows re-install is to get into Dos mode via the Windows recovery disk If you have one and re-instate avgsrdisk.
This is a serious security problem. Best Answer chosen by Ron Newfield. Ron Newfield They are not going to fix this.
This was first reported over 6 months ago and they say they can't even reproduce the problem, despite many people reporting the same problem on various operating systems. All they need to do is delete or rename avgsrdisk. If anyone is doing a complete re-install of Windows for any reason, then just delete or rename avgsrdisk. WizCase is an independent review site. It checked for updates, installed the update, and prompted for a restart. This seems to be expected behavior except for the lack of obvious notification. Problem 3 - Laptop: - The Update setting was set to 'Automatic update'.
In addition to the lack of obvious notification, this is unexpected behavior. We certainly understand you concern. As mentioned before this is an expected behavior of our AVG software. We will consider this as a feedback and forward it to our developers team. You can also send us the feedback from your AVG program. We will try to get this feature in the future updates. We appreciate your efforts. Ed Siff Wait And that lack of obvious notification that an update is available is a feature??
Certainly, I'm not the only one complaining about this. Where are the release notes for AVG updates? Balasubramanian S Avast Ed, we actually referred to this 'Ask when update is available' option. If it is enabled, then the exclamation would appear on AVG system tray icon and if you access the program then, you would see the option to perform the update. Broken, still waiting for almost two weeks to know why. Balasubramanian S Avast Ed, our senior team will investigate and answer to your query.
We will also check regarding release notes for AVG updates and update it as soon as possible. Your patience is much appreciated. Ed Siff I have changed Virus def. In the other thread - which I tried to put an end to - you said: 1.
I have it set to Ask when update available, and I'm not being notified. You also said: 2. As I mentioned above, at least once. If you click on the icon "See What's New," and it will provide the detailed updates to the version of software installed.
Ed Siff. Priyanga Sekar Sitel Thank you for the screenshot, Ed. I apologize for the delayed response. Let us make a attempt to clarify your concerns above. In some exceptional cases, when you configure the settings to 'Automatic', the updates will get installed automatically and the program will notify you to restart or you see the disabled message.
A restart is required to save the changes major update or latest patches made. When a program is outdated, it doesn't impact the protection of your device. It is just the version of the program needs to get updated and this could be the reason we haven't notified you before. The option 'See what is new' could appear if we release new updates to the program's database and you updated the same.
Hope this clarifies the situation. If we can be of more help, please let us know. I realize the importance of automatic def.
